eBike Hire

The eBikes we have bought are Trek Powerfly 4. These bikes come with touring or off-road tyres, mudguards and luggage racks making them ideal eBikes for cycling holidays in Scotland like Speyside, North Coast 500 and Caledonia Way. For off-road routes like Loch Ness 360 and Great Glen Way we can fit nobbly mountain bike tyres.

The eBikes will only be available for multi-day trips and there are only one or two in some sizes so book early if you can. When booking choose either "Touring eBike" or "Mountain eBike". The eBike will be the same but we'll fit the most appropriate tyres for the terrain. There is more about the available accessories here.

Benefits of electric bikes

eBikes have electric motors that provide a little assistance but not a free ride. There is no throttle, you just get a bit of help when starting off or cycling uphill.

There are many benefits of riding an electric bike, including:

  • Faster - cover more distance each day
  • No sweat - reduced effort plus more air cooling
  • Riders of mixed abilities can ride together
  • Safety - keep up with traffic more
  • Help on the hills

But to appreciate how much fun they are and how easy to ride it is best to have a go!

eBike Range

eBikes with flat batteries are not much fun and real-life range is a bit of an unkown for us until we build up customer experience and feedback.

There are a multitude of factors that extend or shorten range. Some factors are obvious like weight and rider effort but there are others you might not have thought of like temperature, tyre choice and wind.

Bosch have a webpage that may or may not produce accurate range estimates but definitely raises awareness of the choices you can make to ensure your eBike is still assisting at the end of your riding day.

eBike Technical Specifications

The 625Wh battery is fully encased in the aluminium bike frame which helps the eBike look more like a standard bike. Trek's removable battery system is user-friendly and makes it easy to take the battery off without tools.

The Bosch motor is the same as on the top of the range Trek eBikes and produces up to 85Nm of torque. Electrical assistance cuts out at 25km/h | 15mph. The Bosch Purion controller has a clear display and is quite simple to use.

The rest is very much like our standard mountain bikes, 1x10 Shimano drivetrain and a suspension fork with lockout. Smaller riders get smaller eBikes with smaller 27.5" wheels and curved top-tubes. All our eBikes are equipped with mudguards, luggage rack, kickstand, lights and bottle cages. We fit two bottle cages if we can but the small triangle in the frame means we only managed one cage on the smaller sizes.
